Meet Dr. Shulin Guo

Dr. Shulin Guo holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Kansas and Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Mannes College The New School For Music. She has distinguished herself as one of the brightest stars of new generation of musicians and establishes a reputation as one of the great piano educator in New York and Kansas. Dr. Shulin Guo currently serves as a lecturer in the University of Kansas, where she has been responsible for teaching piano lessons and chamber music to graduate and undergraduate students. She has also been a vice president of Mu Phi Epsilon Kansas City Alumni Chapter.


As a solo pianist, she has performed with world class musicians such as pianist Sergei Babayan, Juilliard Professor Robert McDonald, pianist Richard Goode, and NYU Professor Eteri Andjaparidze, among others. Dr. Shulin Guo has given recitals in major cities throughout China and U.S. Her recent engagements include performances at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, The German Consulate General at New York, Lied Center of Kansas and Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. She has also been invited to give a solo piano recital at Missouri State University as guest artist in 2019. 

 

Shulin is a recipient of major prizes from many of the most prestigious international piano competitions. She won the 1st place at the First Wiesbaden International Piano Competition, the 1st place at the MTNA-Steinway Young Artist Piano Competition of Kansas State in 2016, the 1st place at the MTNA-Steinway Young Artist Piano Competition of West Central Division in 2017, and was a finalist at the MTNA-Steinway Young Artist National Piano Competition.

 

As a recital collaborator, Dr. Shulin Guo enjoys performing with both vocalists and instrumentalists after serving as a collaborative pianist at Mannes College The New School for Music and University of Kansas. She frequently performs alongside Trio Soave. As a chamber pianist, she won the 1st place at the MTNA Chamber Music Competition of Kansas State in 2017 and 2018, the 1st place at the MTNA Chamber Music Competition of West Central Division, as well as the 3rd place at the MTNA Chamber Music National Competition in 2018. 


Dr. Shulin Guo has not only been teaching piano at the University of Kansas, but also has been teaching private piano studio in KS area. Her students have won top prizes at regional piano competitions and have been accepted to The University of Kansas The School of music. In 2017, her Student Lucy Zuo won 1stprize of Kansas Music Teachers Association State Honors Audition of Grades 11-12. In 2018, her Student Chienjung Hung has been accepted to the University of Kansas The School of Music. She is the member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), KMTA and KCMTA, and has also served as judges to piano competitions in Kansas area. 

 

Currently living in Overland Park, Kansas, Dr. Shulin Guo is dedicated in teaching piano lessons and is an active concert pianist to perform all over the World.
